About Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU)

Venue  – The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU)

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) provides an inspiring academic home for the EURAM Conference. Founded in 1880, VU is a leading Dutch public research university known for its value-driven approach to education and research. Guided by the principle of being “free thinkers for people, society and planet,” the university is committed to advancing a healthier, more sustainable, and more just world.

With strong interdisciplinary faculties spanning the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and medicine, VU fosters dialogue across perspectives—an ideal setting for critical management scholarship. Its focus on health and well-being, climate and environment, and justice and resilience closely aligns with EURAM’s commitment to addressing today’s grand societal challenges.

Located on a compact, modern campus in Amsterdam’s Zuidas Knowledge District, VU brings together academic excellence and societal engagement in one vibrant setting. The university is easily accessible from all parts of the city (10-15 minutes by subway from the city centre), making it an ideal location that minimises the conference’s carbon impact while offering a location rich in culture and opportunities.

As a university with a strong tradition of emancipation and diversity, VU offers not only outstanding facilities for more than 30,000 students and almost 6,000 employees, but also a collaborative and internationally oriented environment—an ideal platform for meaningful exchange and forward-looking management research.

About the School of Business and Economics and the Department of Management & Organisation

VU School of Business and Economics (SBE), the largest faculty at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam with more than 7,000 students, offers a dynamic and internationally recognised environment (SBE is AACSB- and EQUIS-accredited) for the EURAM Conference. Guided by its mission, “science with purpose,” SBE combines academic excellence with societal relevance, advancing research and education that address real-world challenges.

Beyond research and teaching, SBE maintains deep connections with the professional field. The School collaborates closely with leading public and private organisations worldwide on joint research projects, executive education, in-company training, and business partnerships. Its extensive network of globally operating firms actively engages in its executive programs and career initiatives, reinforcing a vibrant exchange between academia and practice.

The Department of Management & Organisation (M&O) is the largest department within the VU School of Business and Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. It is a vibrant scholarly community of over 100 researchers and educators. Dedicated to understanding organisations and organising, the department brings together expertise in entrepreneurship, strategy, organisational theory, and people at work, drawing on diverse methodological approaches.

Driven by the mission of “science with purpose,” M&O conducts rigorous, societally relevant research that treats organisations as responsible actors embedded in broader technological, political, social, and economic contexts. The department equips scholars, educators, and practitioners with evidence-based insights that help organisations perform effectively while contributing positively to society.

Through specialised knowledge hubs focusing on themes such as board dynamics, business and society, diversity and inclusion, and business ecosystems, M&O actively engages with contemporary management challenges—making it a fitting and forward-looking host for the EURAM Conference 2027.
