About Amsterdam

Amsterdam offers an inspiring and cosmopolitan setting for the EURAM Conference, blending historic character with contemporary dynamism. Its iconic canals, elegant 17th-century architecture, and human-scale urban design create an atmosphere that encourages reflection, dialogue, and connection. At the same time, Amsterdam is a forward-looking city known for innovation, sustainability, and international openness—qualities that resonate strongly with today’s management community.

Cultural life is woven into the fabric of the city. Participants can explore world-famous institutions such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Anne Frank House, or simply experience the creativity and diversity that animate its neighborhoods, cafés, and public spaces. The compact city center makes it easy to combine academic exchange with memorable cultural encounters.

Amsterdam is a global hub, well-connected to major cities across Europe and the world through its international airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, one of Europe’s most efficient airports. Additionally, Amsterdam’s extensive rail network and proximity to key European cities like Brussels, Paris, and London (via high-speed trains) make it highly accessible by land, allowing for more eco-friendly travel. The Schiphol International Airport is just 7 minutes away by train or 20 minutes by taxi from VU Amsterdam. Within the city, excellent public transport and cycling infrastructure ensure smooth, sustainable mobility, with convenient access to Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the vibrant Zuidas district.

With its wide range of hotels, welcoming atmosphere, and strong international outlook, Amsterdam provides not just a venue, but an experience—an engaging environment where scholarly exchange can flourish.

As a touristy city and one of the most favourable study destinations, Amsterdam also offers more than 1,000 Airbnb apartments, with many located near the campus.
