Letter of the President

Dear EURAM colleagues and friends,

I just came back from the EURAM Early Career Colloquium, that has been held the 19-21st of March 2025 at the Bologna Business School. It is always a rewarding experience to participate and contribute to our EECC. The program alternates plenary and small group’s sessions where junior and senior scholars may interact and share views on how to develop their professional career. During the first day, we had also the chance to explore the city centre of Bologna with a competent and friendly guide and to taste the excellent local food and wine. The colleagues from the University of Bologna, Department of Management, did a fantastic work in both organizing and managing every detail during the workshop. I want to personally thank everyone who made it possible: the passionate and talented young scholars, the local organizers (Leonardo, Ines and Paola), Johanna Szulc (vice president for EECC), and all mentors (Almina, Fabian, Mine, Peter, Pierre, Stefan), EURAM executives (Nicola). The EECC embodies the EURAM spirit, i.e., the meeting between senior and young members contributes to develop a stronger and more cohesive community of management scholars. I encourage all early career scholars to attend this event in the future and I announce that the Board has decided to fund some participants to EECC and DC of the next two editions. Stay tuned on the EURAM website, more  details soon.

We are quickly approaching our Annual Conference ‘Managing with Purpose’, that will be organized by the University of Florence. The meeting will last several days and include different activities: Doctoral Colloquium (21-22nd of June), EURAM Labs (four labs on 22nd of June, two extra labs on 24th and a last one on 25th), Annual Conference (23-25th of June). This year we received 2745submissions, involved 2885 reviewers; the conference will have over 500 sessions, 1,600 papers presented, 30 symposia, and 7 labs. We estimate that about 2,000 delegates will attend the conference as well as 80 PhDs will attend the Doctoral Colloquium. I express my sincere gratitude to all EURAM stakeholders that made this possible: the SIG chairs, the Track chairs, the symposia & Lab panelists, the submitters, the reviewers, the University of Florence (Sara and Andrea in particular), the Chairs of the Doctoral Colloquium, the ExCom (especially Eythor and Audrey), the Board and the EURAM staff.

Finally, EURAM is becoming more social and connected. Our presence in all social media continues to increase. The most effective social media seems to be Linkedin, that is becoming a website where to publish periodic updates and announcements for all members. At the end of March, we have 9,632 followers and they continue to grow. So, I invite you to link with EURAM on social media in order to access our Society’s posts.

See you all soon in Florence to celebrate our 25th anniversary together!

All the best,

Alessandro Zattoni

EURAM President

International Careers and Academia

While the topic of international careers and academia has received significant interest, the real contextual opportunities and barriers remain hidden by a dreadful reality across countries, contexts and international virtual spaces in greater numbers than ever before. This book integrates current debates of exposure to diversity and multiculturalism with different perspectives from authors with academic affiliations in 14 countries. It covers topics on intellectual, language and cultural diversity and offers a theory for the global value chain of academia and for the careers of international scientists. The aim is to achieve a holistic transformation with several possible courses of action useful to all involved in academia.

The book also provides an overview of international scientific careers across different career stages based on lived experiences. This type of international geographical mobility needs more than supportive host institutions and requires international networks and relationships of trust.

The book is a must-read for all involved in diversity and multiculturalism in higher education in different countries. It provides important insights to those engaged in academia and in international careers as scientists.

A new book has just been published – “Trekking with Stars: An Organizational Management Development Program.” This personal and professional journal documents my experience as a consultant and facilitator, guiding a leadership development and training program for highpotential (‘talent’) managers in a large business organization. This account offers an unconventional perspective on managerial development, tracing the journey of talented, highly motivated individuals as they form a close-knit, almost family-like group. Throughout their demanding process of professional and personal growth, they experienced both highs and lows. The questions raised about management and leadership extended beyond the program, resonating across many aspects of their lives. Dr. Ganit Eshel Kedmi is an HR &O.D. consultant, and a researcher specializing in leadership, change management, and accelerating cognitive skills through advanced technology.

Survey

We have undertaken a research project on the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) to assess its awareness, enrolment effectiveness, and barriers to wider adoption among rural households in Pune District of India. The study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the scheme’s renewal and claim settlement processes.

Currently, a team of 10 trained MBA students is actively conducting data collection in the field. Their insights will help identify key challenges and potential strategies for improving the scheme’s reach and impact. This research is expected to provide valuable policy recommendations for enhancing financial inclusion and social security in rural India.

Teaching

[SIG 01 – B4S – Business for Society]

The Principle of Responsible Management Education (PRME) is an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact aimed at advancing responsible management education and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education. One of the core programmes that PRME offered was the Impactful Five (i5) program which focused on developing innovative and playful pedagogies in business and management schools. This year, the program has grown to fruition allowing the PRME community to focus on pedagogy and education more broadly. We are excited to announce our new PRME Education Programme,  which focuses on advancing business and management education by equipping institutions with innovative tools, curricula, and pedagogy that embed sustainability, ethics, and responsible leadership into learning environments. Through downloadable teaching resources, certification programs, and peer-learning networks, educators gain the support needed to deliver impactful and interdisciplinary learning experiences. Trainings will begin in July and resources will be launched at the PRME Global Forum in June 2025. By fostering research and collaboration, PRME empowers students and faculty to tackle real-world sustainability challenges with urgency and purpose.

A new book has been published in 2024: Clelia Mazzoni, Firms, Industries, Markets. Micro, Meso, and Macro Relationships in the Economics of Complexity (Foreword by Salvatore Vicari)

This book offers a rigorous discussion on how we can understand economic systems through a complexity lens. In particular, the author investigates the relationships between the firms, the industries, and markets (micro, meso, macro relationships), in order to help us better understand the main challenges of a representation of the economy using the “complex systems’ theory”. The author argues that the logic of governance in the paradigm of complex systemic rationality renounces anthropocentric vision of the organization and the possibility of total direction and control over systemic and intersystemic relations and accept a constructivist vision of these relations and their mutual interdependencies. Offering a novel perspective, this book contributes to improve our understanding of economic complex systems and how organizations at different levels interact.
