Letter of the President
Dear EURAM colleagues and friends,
I have great memories of the EURAM 2024 Doctoral Colloquium and Conference organized by the School of Management, University of Bath. It was a great conference both for the record number of attendees – over 1700, and for the lively interactions during and between sessions. I received your feedback that is very positive, but also underlines few issues we will analyze to fine tune the organization of the next annual conference. I warmly thank the team of the University of Bath Business School, the SIG chairs and their teams, the VPs and the staff, the guest speakers and panelists, the sessions chairs and discussants, the reviewers and submitters, and – last but not least – our partner DEKON.
The next conference and doctoral colloquium will be hosted by the University of Florence. This will be the great annual event for all current and new EURAM members. Next year the conference will have a special flavor as we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Society. Our SIGs and tracks chairs are already engaged to solicit your interest and to encourage submissions. We will launch the call for papers on the 26th of September. For more information, please visit the conference website: https://conferences.euram.academy/2025conference/
We can anticipate that there has been already a great interest as signaled by the record number of proposals for topics and symposia received! I am looking forward to meeting all of you in Florence, 21-25 June 2025!
In the last few years, EURAM grew significantly in term of members and conference attendees. While this is a great news for our Society, it also poses some challenges for the organization of the annual conference. The board, the executive committee and all SIG chairs are aware of this issue and are discussing various alternatives to address it adequately. As this is a strategic decision, it will require some time and the contribution of several members. Stay tuned!
We started to plan how to celebrate EURAM 25th anniversary. The first event is an EMR special issue organized by EURAM Fellows (i.e., Stewart Clegg, Pieter McKiernan, Kathrin Moeslein, Howard Thomas, and Sibel Yamak) on “The Future of Management Education and Research: The role of institutions”, whose deadline is 31 January 2025. Please consider submitting your work to this special issue that covers a topic at the core of our profession of management scholars. You may find the Call-for-Papers at this link: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/pb-assets/assets/17404762/CFP-25th-EURAM-Anniversary-Special-Issue-1716923419987.pdf
I want to share other two great pieces of news with you all: the first one concerns an initiative to communicate with practitioners, while the second one focuses on a new award on innovation in teaching.
First, thanks to the initiative of David Versailles, EURAM members will have the possibility to communicate with practitioners by publishing articles on the Conversation. You will receive soon more detailed information on this initiative.
Second, EURAM has just launched an Innovation in Management Teaching Award, whose submission deadline is 14 December 2024. This is an important area of our profession that is highly relevant for its potential positive impact on our students and institutions. Please consider applying if your profile and experience fit with the criteria. For any questions, feel free to contact info@euram.academy.
Finally, I would like to thank Niels Noorderhaven, for the excellent contribution provided to the society as chair of the board. I warmly thank Niels for his passion and leadership to the benefit of our Society. At the same time, I am happy to welcome Thomas Durand as new chair of the board. It will be a pleasure working with Thomas and all board members to accomplish the mission of our Society.
I am looking forward to meeting you all soon!
Alessandro Zattoni
