Letter of the President

Dear EURAM colleagues and friends,

We are approaching the end of an intense semester. We will finally have time to relax and to spend some time with our beloved ones.

With this newsletter, I would like to remind you of some important deadlines and underline key important news concerning our society.

The next Annual Conference will be organized by the University of Bath and its School of Management (25-28 June 2024). The deadline to submit your paper to the 2024 EURAM Annual Conference is the 11th of January 2024. As the number of tracks and symposia proposed for the Conference reached the highest number ever, there are expectations that the Conference will be a great success.

The deadline for PhDs applying for the Doctoral Colloquium (24-25 June 2024) is the 18th of January. As usual, this event represents a great opportunity for junior colleagues to meet their peers from various countries, and to develop skills and competencies to boost their professional career.

In 2024, EURAM will organize the 15th edition of the EECC in Barcelona (11-13th of March 2024). The program has been largely enriched by Joanna Szulc with the ultimate goal to increase the benefits for all attendees. I am sure this event will help early career scholars to build a richer professional network, to develop more sophisticated skills, and to better navigate their academic career.

Next year, we will be launching elections for the next EURAM Chairperson, the Dean of the Fellows College, the SIG and Country Representatives on the board, and some Country Representatives to join the Country Representatives Council. The Board has recently developed bylaws and modified those to harmonize the terms and the elections modalities. All those elected officers’ positions will be run in the same way for more coherence and inclusion; self-nominations will be solicited. We hope you will be keen on volunteering for a position and also on voting when the time comes.

Finally, I want to underline that we are launching a new service (tentatively called ‘community connect’) that will allow you to send monthly updates (e.g., about the call for special issues, the call for book chapters or the opening of new positions) to all (or some) SIGs’ members. This new service will enrich EURAM communication tools that currently include the annual report, the quarterly newsletters, and the posts on social media (whose impact is growing significantly). New initiatives will be disclosed soon.

That being said, I hope to meet you all next year at the EURAM Annual Conference and Doctoral Colloquium that will be held in Bath.

In the meantime, I am happy to wish you a relaxing holiday season and a fantastic new year!

All the best,

Alessandro Zattoni

Dr. Mythili Kolluru has recently published her article “BANI: The New Business Climate” in the Business and Strategy Magazine in the November issue of 2023-ISBN:978-81-953570-0-0.

The article delves into the BANI framework and strategies to thrive in a world characterized by brittleness, anxiety, non-linearity, and incomprehensibility. It is a chaotic and unpredictable world where the old values and rules no longer apply. In this environment, companies must rethink their strategies, adapt their approaches, and develop new coping mechanisms. The traditional tools and frameworks that served well in the VUCA era may no longer suffice in this new landscape.

Doctoral Webinar: Balancing Systematicity and Generativity in Literature Reviews

In this webinar hosted by Rennes School of Business, Prof Dermot Breslin will explore the choices made by the writers of scholarly, theory-driven literature review papers at each stage of the process, as they balance competing needs for systematicity and generativity. Participants will journey through the review process, from setting the focus of the review, to search and selection, interpretation and presentation of the final review.

The webinar will take place on 21st November 2023 between 14:30 and 16:00, and is open to all doctoral students.

At the end of the session participants will a) understand the dualism of systematicity and generativity in literature reviews, and b) identify ways in which scholars can be systematic in their approach, AND generate new theory as each stage of the review process.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR FOUR IFSAM 2023 AWARDS

In response to numerous requests from applicants for the IFSAM 2023 Awards, specifically, those applying for the IFSAM Award for Exceptional Service to the Management Field Worldwide and the IFSAM Award for Excellence and Innovation in Management Pedagogy, the IFSAM Board of Directors has taken into account the unique circumstances surrounding the submission of supporting documentation from third parties.
